Glenn’s response to the credit crunch and an answer to those who were asking for even cheaper products.  In some cases only to go on to bedeck them with NOS Telefunkens when they could have bought the Micro 25 in the first place!

The components are naturally cheaper than those in the Micro 25 and it lacks the protection circuitry but it still possesses the openess and honesty of the other pres in the range.

A true bargain.

The Phono 1 (mark II) is the entry level MM/MC Phono Preamplifier manufactured by Goldenote.
It`s Phono-Wide electronic design technology is able to match almost all the cartridges available on the market today, without the need to make any manual adjustment. The internal Dip-Switch is installed only to set the unit to MM gain when such cartridges are matched with the unit.
The power supply has also been carefully designed and is over-engineered to the extent that it could virtually drive a power amplifier.
The Phono 1 chassis is made of solid steel to shield the unit from RFI and EMI interference.

It is an inductive, double-filtered, virtual battery power supply.
With it fitted, Phono 1 out performs Phono 2 while Phono 2 becomes a giant killer. The internal power supplies of Phono 1 and Phono 2 then act as passive decoupling power supplies.
It can be retro-fitted to older Phono 1’s and Phono 2’s with Din connectors.

Priced at a reasonable £700 this pre-amp delivers a very impressive performance. It uses 3 x ECC83; 2 in the phono stage and 1 in the linestage.

It is the result of 25 years honing the circuit to a point where it no longer deploys a cathode follower. The result is a more dynamic, cleaner, `faster` sound than previous models.

The PHONO 2 is a Goldenote Phono preamplifier using the proprietary Inductive-Phono™ power supply which virtually works as a DC battery. It also employs a more sophisticated Phono-Wide™ design giving excellent matching with almost all the cartridges available on the market today, without the need for manual adjustment.
Though the Chassis of the PHONO 2 is very similar to the Phono 1, a non-magnetic internal damping has been applied to ensure the highest sonic performance.

The Micro 25R is the best performing pre-amp at this price point that I know of. ( EA prices for this level of performance were about double the current asking price.) The R stands for regulation giving the proverbial `iron fist in a velvet glove` effect. Bass is more focussed, voices occupy their own space and cymbals shimmer with detail. The Mosfet regulated power supply really makes a big difference to the sound. The power supply is taken care of with two large toroids and features a regulated HT.

The PAMPHILI chassis is an aluminium cylinder guaranteeing maximum rigidity in a non-magnetic field. The internal electronics are fixed on a 10mm thick acrylic board to better dampen vibrations.
The special Inductive-Phono™ is a real inductive power supply using 3 “transformers”. Two transformers work as AC dampers to let the unit be powered by a virtual DC battery, obtaining a very silent audio signal path. All the electronic components are strictly selected and tested to achieve the best possible tolerances.
